A road through the trees representing a fresh start after a DWI
you’re not alone

When a legal problem forces the question

For many people, an arrest is the first moment they can no longer tell themselves that drinking or drug use is under control. It is scary and humiliating, and it can put your job, license, marriage and finances at risk all at once.

It can also be a turning point. I work with adults facing a DWI or other substance-related legal issue to understand how they got here, make honest changes and move forward with a plan.

I can help if you are dealing with

  • A recent DWI or public intoxication arrest
  • A court, attorney or probation officer recommending counseling
  • An employer asking you to address substance use
  • A substance use assessment you need to complete
  • A family who has finally said "enough"

how it works

How DWI and court-related counseling works

Substance use assessment

We start with an honest assessment of your alcohol or drug use and how it is affecting your life, so we know what kind of help you actually need.

Individual counseling

One-on-one sessions focused on the patterns behind the arrest, using approaches like CBT and Solution-Focused Therapy, with daily support between sessions.

A plan to move forward

We work on practical changes that protect your future, your family and your career, not just on getting through a requirement.

what to expect

Using this moment to make real changes

After a DWI, many people want to do the minimum, get through the requirements and move on. That is understandable. But a DWI is often a sign that drinking has been affecting your life for a while, and the stakes of a second offense are much higher.

In our sessions we look honestly at your drinking or drug use, what was going on around the time of the arrest and what needs to change. We also deal with the shame, stress and fallout at home and work, which can be overwhelming on their own.

Many of my clients later say their arrest was the thing that finally got them help. With the right support, it can be the start of something better.

We also look at the practical side of recovery after a DWI, like how to handle social events, work dinners and holidays without drinking, and how to rebuild trust with your family. These are the situations where good intentions are most likely to slip.

A counselor who’s been there

I’m Jennifer Sartin, MS, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (Texas LCDC #11510) with 17 years of experience. Before I became a counselor, I struggled with alcohol and drugs myself, so I understand this from the inside.

My practice focuses only on addiction. Every client gets a weekly session plus daily support between sessions, because recovery happens in everyday life, not just in my office.

common questions

DWI & Court-Related Counseling FAQs

Will my counseling satisfy my court requirement?

Requirements are different for every case and court. I’m not a lawyer, so please confirm with your attorney or probation officer what they need, and we can discuss it during your free consultation.

Do you offer state-mandated DWI education classes?

No. I provide individual counseling and substance use assessments, not group DWI education classes. If you are required to complete a specific class, your attorney can tell you where to go.

Is this only for people with a DWI?

No. I also help people facing other substance-related legal or workplace issues, and people who simply want to deal with their drinking before it leads to bigger problems.

How quickly can I be seen?

Most new clients start within 1–2 days, which helps when you are on a deadline. Call (817) 381-8227.

Is what I say in counseling shared with the court?

Your counseling is confidential. If you need proof of participation for a court or attorney, we discuss exactly what you are comfortable sharing and you decide.

I wasn’t arrested, but I’m worried I could be. Can you help?

Yes. Getting help before a legal problem happens is the best possible outcome. Call me to talk it through.

If you’re in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

Call for a free, confidential phone consultation. I’ll take it from there, and most new clients start within 1–2 days.
