Help that fits a life you want to protect
Drug addiction can take many forms: prescription pills that started after an injury, stimulants that helped you keep up, or something you never expected to depend on. Whatever the substance, the pattern is often the same. It begins as a solution and slowly becomes the problem.
Many people in Southlake carry this privately. They worry about their career, their reputation and what their family will think. I work with adults who want real help without broadcasting it, and who need support that keeps working after the session ends.
Signs your use may have become an addiction
- You need more of the drug to get the same effect
- You run out of prescriptions early or look for other sources
- You feel sick, anxious or low when you go without it
- You have tried to stop and found yourself using again
- You are keeping secrets about your use from people you love
For research-based information on how different drugs affect the brain and body, see the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
How drug addiction counseling works
A clear, honest starting point
We talk openly about what you use, how it started and what it is costing you. There is no judgment here, only an honest look so we can plan well.
Tools for real life
Together we build strategies for cravings, stress, triggers and the people or places connected to using, drawing on CBT, DBT and Solution-Focused Therapy.
Daily support
You have a weekly session and daily support in between, which matters most in early recovery, when urges can come out of nowhere.
What recovery from drug addiction looks like
Early recovery from drugs can bring strong cravings, low mood, poor sleep and irritability as your brain and body adjust. These feelings are temporary, but they are a common reason people go back to using. Having support every day, not just once a week, makes it much easier to ride them out.
We also look at what the drug was doing for you. For some people it was relief from pain, anxiety or depression. For others it was energy, confidence or a way to escape. Finding healthier ways to meet those needs is a big part of staying clean.
Over time, most people find their focus, relationships and finances start to recover too. Recovery is not a straight line, but with steady support it is very possible.
Shame is one of the biggest barriers to getting help with drugs. Many people worry they will be judged, labeled or treated like a criminal. In my office, you are treated as a person dealing with a health problem, by someone who has been through recovery herself.

A counselor who’s been there
I’m Jennifer Sartin, MS, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (Texas LCDC #11510) with 17 years of experience. Before I became a counselor, I struggled with alcohol and drugs myself, so I understand this from the inside.
My practice focuses only on addiction. Every client gets a weekly session plus daily support between sessions, because recovery happens in everyday life, not just in my office.

Call (817) 381-8227Drug Addiction Counseling FAQs
Do you help with prescription drug addiction?
Yes. Many people I work with became dependent on medication that was first prescribed to them. We work on the addiction itself while you stay in touch with your doctor about any medical needs.
Do you provide detox or medication?
No. I’m not a medical doctor, so I don’t provide detox, medication or inpatient care. If you need medical help to stop safely, I’ll help you find it, and counseling can continue alongside.
Will anyone find out I’m getting help?
Your counseling is confidential, with only the narrow exceptions every licensed counselor must follow, such as an immediate safety risk. Sessions are one-on-one, never in a group.
How do I get started?

What drugs do you help with?
I help adults with addiction to prescription medications, stimulants, opioids, cannabis and other drugs, as well as alcohol. Call me to talk about your situation.
Can I keep working while I get help?
Yes. Most of my clients keep their jobs and family routines while we work together. Sessions are scheduled around your life.
If you’re in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency.
