you’re not alone
When drinking stops feeling like a choice
Most of the people who call me are capable, hard-working adults. They have jobs, families and responsibilities, and from the outside they look like they have it together. But alcohol has started to take more than it gives, and they are tired of waking up with the same regret.
Alcohol addiction rarely looks like the stereotype. It often starts quietly, as a way to unwind or get through stress, and builds until it is hard to imagine an evening without it. If that sounds familiar, you are not weak and you are not alone. You are dealing with something that responds well to the right kind of help.
Signs it may be time to talk to someone
You drink more, or for longer, than you meant to
You have tried to cut back or quit and could not stay with it
You hide how much you drink from your spouse, family or coworkers
You feel anxious, shaky or irritable when you have not had a drink
Drinking is starting to affect your work, health or relationships
If you want a private way to look at your own drinking first, the National Institutes of Health offers a helpful self-check at NIAAA’s Rethinking Drinking.
how it works
How alcohol counseling with me works
1. Understand your drinking
We look honestly at when, why and how you drink, including the stress, emotions and situations that pull you back, so the plan fits your life.
2. Build a plan you can keep
Using approaches like CBT, DBT and Solution-Focused Therapy, we work out practical steps for stopping and for handling the moments that used to end in a drink.
3. Support between sessions
Along with a weekly session, you have daily support from me. Cravings and hard days do not wait for appointments, and you will not have to face them alone.
what to expect
What changes when you stop drinking
The first weeks without alcohol can feel strange. Evenings feel longer, sleep may take time to settle, and emotions you used to numb start showing up. That is normal, and it is exactly when daily support helps most. We plan for those evenings, weekends and social events ahead of time, so you are not making it up as you go.
As the weeks go on, most people notice clearer mornings, better sleep, more patience with their kids and partner, and a sense of self-respect that has been missing for a long time. Recovery is not just about removing alcohol. It is about building a life you do not need to escape from.
We also look at the stress, anxiety, grief or relationship problems that often sit underneath heavy drinking. Addressing those is what makes sobriety last, rather than just white-knuckling through each day.
You do not have to hit rock bottom to deserve help. Some of my clients come in after a scare, like a fight at home or a doctor’s warning. Others simply wake up one morning and decide they are done feeling this way. Whatever brings you here, it is the right time.
your counselor
A counselor who’s been there
I’m Jennifer Sartin, MS, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (Texas LCDC #11510) with 17 years of experience. Before I became a counselor, I struggled with alcohol and drugs myself, so I understand this from the inside.
My practice focuses only on addiction. Every client gets a weekly session plus daily support between sessions, because recovery happens in everyday life, not just in my office.
close to home
Alcohol counseling for Keller and nearby
My office is right here in Keller, so many clients come from just down the road. Others drive in from Southlake, North Richland Hills, Colleyville, Roanoke and Fort Worth, all within about 20 minutes. If coming to the office does not work, we can meet online from anywhere in Texas.
Because so many of my clients are professionals, privacy matters. Sessions are one-on-one, never in a group, and nobody at your job needs to know you are getting help.
If you are not sure whether you are ready, that is okay too. The free phone consultation is just a conversation. I will listen, answer your questions and tell you honestly what I think would help, with no pressure to commit.
common questions
Alcohol Addiction Counseling FAQs
Do I have to quit drinking completely?
We talk about your goals together. For many people with alcohol addiction, stopping completely is the safest and most realistic path, and I will be honest with you about what I see. You will never be judged for where you are starting.
Is it safe to stop drinking on my own?
For heavy, daily drinkers, stopping suddenly can be medically dangerous. I’m not a medical doctor and don’t provide detox, so if there is any risk, I’ll help you find medical care first and we can work together alongside it.
How is this different from rehab?
You stay at home, keep working and get support built into your real life. Many clients come to me instead of rehab, and many come after rehab to help them stay sober once they are home.
How quickly can I start?
Most new clients have their first session within 1–2 days. Call (817) 381-8227 for a free phone consultation.
What if I only drink on weekends?
Binge drinking on weekends can be just as harmful as daily drinking, and it often hides more easily. If weekends are leaving you with regret, it is worth talking about.
Will my family be involved?
Only if you want them to be. Many clients start on their own, and we can bring a spouse or family member in later if it would help.
If you’re in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency.
You don’t have to figure this out alone.
Call for a free, confidential phone consultation. I’ll take it from there, and most new clients start within 1–2 days.
